Guinjata Bay
(rated as
better than the Red Sea by many), is definitely Mozambique’s premier
dive
resort and offers all the amenities one would expect. The accommodation
is in rustic wooden huts,
and the diving out of this world with “unbelievable” 360 degree fish.
For those who enjoy
4x4’ing there is an excellent trail through the coconut groves and for
those who enjoy eating there is a superbly situated restaurant offering
prawns, crayfish and Portuguese chicken.
Lodge :
Guinjata
Bay is located just south of Inhambane and fly in packages are also
available. This area is a gold mine, offering excellent accommodation
on the hillside and providing easy access and magnificent views of the
beaches below. Deep sea fishing, saltwater fly-fishing and scuba diving
are some of the activities offered with the emphasis not only being on
having a good dive, but on understanding, preservation and
conservation of the reefs.

Dive Sites :
Guinjata Bay offers two rubber duck’s for diving charters. There are
two Bauer Mariner compressors to fill cylinders. We do have range of
diving gear available for rent for those who need.
We will ensure that your diving experience with us at Guinjata Bay
will be memorable. Through scuba diving we hope to build a
friendship that will grow as we have a common interest in life. Our
aim is to give you more than just a good dive! We would like to add
more to you diving experience through the understanding,
preservation and conservation of our reefs. You will not leave empty
handed. In fact we would like to add to your knowledge and ours.
The area offers a number of dive sites which include the following:
Guinjata
Bay Reef
This reef is approximately
1,5 km from the launch site and offers a variety of dive sites. The
outer ledge of the reef drops to 21 meters while other areas of the
reef come up to 9 meters. There are three-dive site on the reef,
which have names like “the Cave” (small amphitheatre 9m – 14m), “Pao
Ledge” (bread loaf like ledge 13m – 21m), “Batfish Pinnacle” (plenty
of batfish 9m –14m). One area in particular is covered with sea
anemones; other areas are full of brightly coloured nudibranchs and
sea cucumbers. The outer ledge regularly produces sightings of game
fish and larger rays resting in the sand.
Manta Reef
This reef is approximately
12 km north of the launch site and therefore can only be reached
when the sea is relatively calm. This reef is large and offers a
great variety of dives ranging from 18m – 35m on the outer ledge.
There are two sites on the reef that we dive “Manta Pinnacle” & “The
Canyon”. As it is situated in the main current, sightings of manta
and devil rays are common. Whale shark, sharks and various pelagic
fish are often seen. There are three-manta cleaner stations that
provide the reef with manta rays all year round. “ Manta Pinnacle”
offers unbelievable diving with vast shoals of reef fish as well as
game fish to be seen. Spanish dancers have been seen swimming in
broad daylight. “The Canyon” has a pair of long nose hawk fish and
the marbled leopard grouper is common on the reef. This reef
regularly produces world class diving!
Paindane
This reef starts close to
the shore and runs down to 35m very quickly offering excellent
sightings of reef fish (frog fish) on one side with game fish
lurking on the other. Many lionfish can be seen in one spot. There
have been sittings of Zambezi (Bull Shark) and Tiger shark. The
shallow protected area has brilliant corals. Again this reef has
many spots with strong currents running (advanced divers only). The
inner side of the reef is extremely well protected and provides
almost pool like conditions for student training and snorkelling.
Island Rock
This reef is about 6 km
south of Paindane. Several whale sharks are spotted here on a
regular basis. This site is rarely dived and thus unexplored. There
is a cave that drops to 14m up to 7m.
There are many reefs that need to be discovered! Two that we are
looking at are “Kingfisher reef” & “Green tree deep ledge”.
