Shimoni lies at the tip of the
Pemba Channel and is part of a large bay area making up the Shimoni
Archipelago. There are several islands and atolls in the area that sport a
variety of coral and marine life creating an ideal environment for divers
and snorkelers alike. It is very orientated towards ocean sports offering
ample diving, fishing, snorkeling and island discovering .
Diving :
Kisiti Island is in the heart of the marine
reserve where unique diving can be found. Around the Pengutti Islands the
diving is around 30 - 70 feet and this area has several wild families of
dolphins which are commonly seen during dives. This is a high point for
many divers who have not experienced interactions with these friendly
mammals.
The reefs around Pengutti islands are excellent for drift diving. The
bottom is a combination of sand flats and reef outgrowths. Sting rays and
turtles are commonly seen in this area. There is a general concentration
of brilliant coral fish following the reefs around Pengutti. Parrot Fish,
Trumpet Fish, Bat Fish, Grouper, Napoleon Wrasse, Clown Fish, Lion Fish
and Spanish Dancers are commonly seen here.
Resort :
Shimoni Reef Lodge is
made up of 14 open plan cottages - all with ocean views and private
verandahs. The rooms are 2 level and accommodate 4 persons. A sea water
swimming pool provides a refreshing and unique alternative during your
stay - made up of multi levels makes it ideal for kids and PADI tuition.
Fresh seafood and other exotic delicacies are prepared by experienced
chefs who are accustomed to the various international cuisines. All this
readily available in our open air terrace restaurant overlooking the
