MEDJUMBI ISLAND LODGE

Medjumbi Island Lodge offers you a unique chance to experience Africa at her most intimate, to submerge yourself in her quietly radiant majesty.
Quirimba Archipelago - where the great Indian Ocean current meets mainland Africa, roughly 300km due West of the Comores, lies Ilha De Medjumbi, Jewel of the Quirimba archipelago.
A veritable paradise for the discerning sub-aqua photographer. One that offers unsurpassed quality of lighting, visibility and subject matter at depths of less than 5 meters !

Diving :

A destination offering divers exceptional dive opportunities, in shallow, current free, tropical conditions. Literally 100's of unexplored/undived reefs within the reserve provide the keen SCUBA diver with an unlimited choice of dive opportunities and adventurous suggestions for new excursions are encouraged and welcomed.

Resort :

Accommodation on the island is in rustic, A-frame, twin bed chalets built to allow maximum benefit from the sea breezes and deep shade under the palm frond thatched roofs.
Each pair of chalets shares an ablution facility consisting of environmentally friendly, (fully sealed to the environment) dry disposal toilets hot and cold fresh water showers and hand basins in a facility built to blend with the surroundings and which bears minimal impact on the sensitive ecosystems that exist on the islands.
A central lodge building constructed of natural, local materials houses the kitchen, bar and dining/entertainment area.

Standard Itinerary :

DEPART JOHANNESBURG for PEMBA on WEDNESDAY
At sunrise and after breakfast, guests are met at the hotel and depart by road via Macomia and Mucojo to the beach at Cabo Piqueve.
Depending on the party, the journey takes 4-8 hours and on arrival at the beach, our staff ferry all baggage, freight and guests out to the boat for the short trip to Medjumbi Island Lodge and tropical marine paradise.

THEREAFTER... until the following Friday... As the full island's is yours for the duration of your stay to explore and enjoy. As the island is exclusively for our resorts and your group's use, privacy is guaranteed and there is absolutely no risk of theft or threat to your safety in any way.

 

Medjumbi Island Lodge:
Closed until mid 2003

  • Airfares from and return to Johannesburg.
  • One night's full board at an Hotel in Pemba with sight seeing excursion and dinner at a restaurant on Wimbe beach
  • All transfers to and from Medjumbi Island.
  • Unlimited diving including 3 boat dives/day
  • Full use of all equipment & unlimited air fills.
  • 8 nights full board & lodging (3 meals/day) 
  • Use of game fishing equipment on board the boat.
  • Free PADI diver training or unlimited professionally conducted resort dives.

How to get there :

Maputo is less than an hour’s flight from Johannesburg. There are daily flights between the two cities. Or you can drive quite easily, from South Africa. VISAS: All visitors must have visas for Mozambique. Speak to your travel agent or consult the nearest Mozambican consulate or embassy.

Currency :

The Metical. But take US$ and ZAR in cash and / or travellers cheques. A few places accept credit cards.

When to go:

Dec to March is very hot (tropical climate). April to Nov is much more pleasant.

Time : GMT + 2hrs

Health:

Malaria is rife, so taking the appropriate prophylactics is essential. Speak to your physician or pharmacist as to the best options. Drink only bottled or purified water.

What to pack:

Loose, comfortable, well worn clothing, well worn walking shoes, beach wear, snorkelling gear if not renting from the lodges, personal medication and toiletries, money belt, protective wear and gear for the tropical sun and rain.
CUSTOMS ALLOWANCE: 20 kg + 1 item of hand luggage.
