BAZARUTO
ISLAND
Bazaruto Island is one
of five principal islands in the Bazaruto Archipelago, which lies just 30km
off the coast of Vilanculos in Inhambane Province. It is the largest of all
the islands, approximately 37km long and up to 7km wide.
The Bazaruto
Archipelago's islands were formed when sand was deposited here hundreds
of thousands of years ago by the waters of the Limpopo River. The river
estuary has now been shifted through various tectonic forces several
hundred kilometres to the south. During low tide many white sandy
islands pop up, covered in shells. Only six hours later they will be ten
metres underwater again. Legend has it that the Portuguese disposed of
prisoners this way, by dropping them off on a beautiful deserted island.

BENGUERRA ISLAND
MARLIN LODGE:
Every time you step on to the beach it is as if your footprints are the
first the beach has ever experienced. Marlin Lodge consists of A-frame
thatch chalets, walkways, and lush vegetation surrounding the many
facilities, watersports and diving centre. This world renowned island
offers a combination of magnificent wall and drift diving.
Accommodation
:
Marlin's elegant wooden structures are
beautifully integrated into the environment. The center-piece is a
living-dining area crafted from ironwood and red mahogany.
The pool is
set in a glade of coconut and ilala palms, perfect for a day of lazing
and tropical cocktails. Raised boardwalks limit damage to the sensitive
dune environment and lead to the chalets. From this vantage you can
watch the antics of red squirrels and a host of birds like brown-headed
parrots, green pigeons and Burchell's coucals.
