This
is by far the best package for exploring the magical island of Reunion.
You book on an "open voucher" system.
The only requirement for this
package, is that the first two nights must be pre-booked at one of the
following hotels in Saint Gilles: Swalibo (3-star), Boucan Canot (3-star)
or Villas du Lagon (4-star). The remaining five hotels can be chosen
from a carefully selected range of eight hotels in various parts of the
island, on a Bed & Breakfast basis .
This gives you plenty of
flexibility, and allows you time to take in the island’s diverse
breathtaking attractions at your own pace. Reunion’s roads are in
excellent condition, so getting around by means of a hired car, is the
most convenient way in which to reach places of interest. In a week, you
can visit the magnificent Cirques (amphitheatres); the Volcano and relax
on lovely beaches fringed with coral reefs.
Itinerary
:
DAY
1: Fly from Johannesburg to St Denis, the island’s capital. Our
efficient agents will meet you at Roland Garros airport and transfer you
to the hotel in St Gilles, 50 km from the airport. This is the sea, sun
& sand holiday Mecca of Reunion, on the island’s west coast.
Overnight there at the hotel of your choice. (B&B)
DAY 2: Day to unwind in St Gilles, where you can relax on the
glorious beach, go snorkelling, scuba diving and try local restaurants.
There are also vibey night clubs and bars in this area, which have a
festive holiday ambience and is a playground for the young French elite.
Overnight at the hotel of your choice. (B&B).
DAY 3 – 7: In the morning your rental car will be dropped off
at your hotel. Explore Reunion at your own pace. As the island is only
50km x 80 km (but very rugged), getting from any one point to another,
entails a drive of maximum two hours.
DAY 8: Drive the car to the airport and hand in the keys and
check in for your return flight to Johannesburg.

near the peak Piton Maido. Here, you can overnight before venturing into
the Cirques of Cilaos and Salazie. You’ll take in awesome views of the
dramatic landscapes along the winding road to Cilaos. Salazie, on the
other hand, is the wettest of the 3 Cirques and about 100 waterfalls
plunge into its deep recesses. In both the Cirques, many activities may
be enjoyed, like "canyonning" (kloofing), which is abseiling
waterfalls; rock climbing and hiking.
-
The town of Cilaos is also known for its locally produced wines and
the Irenee Acott Health Spa. In Salazie Cirque, make a point of visiting
the mountain town of Hellbourg. There, the charming mountain lodge "Relaise
des Cimes", offers world class cuisine, thanks to the proprietor who
also authored a Creole recipe book. Hotels selected for these Cirques are:
Hotel Maido (in Petite France); Hotel Le Vieux Cep (in Cilaos) and the
Relais des Cimes in Salazie.
-
In southern Reunion, pleasant stops include the coastal town of St
Pierre, as well as the coastal resort of Grande Anse. You can easily get
to the active volcano (Piton-de-la-Fournais) from St Joseph or Baril.
Hotels include the Baril, which has a lovely seafront setting and hotel
Les Geraniums, in the mountains at La Plaine des Cafres, (on a par with
Relaise des Cimes for best food in Reunion).
-
Along the island’s east coast, stops include St Rose, known for
its church which miraculously escaped destruction during a severe
volcanic eruption. Then there is Grand Etang, an area which beckons
hiking enthusiasts. Take in amazing views from Takamaka and Saint
Benoit. In St Benoit, we selected the new and popular hotel Armony, at
the seafront.
-
At Tevelave, the Auberge les Fougeres, can be used as a starting
point for many hiking trails. If you want to spend time in the capital
city, St Denis, then use the Jamrose Hotel.
