Tanjong Jara is a
luxury resort dedicated to adventure and the most satisfying forms of
relaxation you can imagine. The design was inspired by the indigenous 'istanas',
elegant, wooden palaces that indulged the Malay Sultans of long ago. Such
was the art and craftsmanship that went into the concept that it won the
Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
The natural beauty of the setting begs to be explored; so jungle safaris,
river expeditions and overnight camps to observe the wildlife are
arranged. Meanwhile the resort itself offers kayaking, watersports,
snorkeling, and diving as well as a state-of-the-art gymnasium and a
therapy complex offering a range of treatments. Tanjong Jara Resort is situated on the East Coast of Peninsula
Malaysia, The resort is built on a 17 hectare (42.5 acres) site with a one
and a half kilometer (one mile) stretch of private beach and is
approximately a mile away from the expressway. The riverine town of Dungun
lies 8 kilometers (5 miles) to the west of the resort.
Accommodation:
There are a variety of rooms available - all beautifully
appointed with your comfort in mind.
The Anjung Beach Cottages are located closest to the beach in
single storey units. Each cottage offers a 6'6" bed plus an
additional single day bed. A wall of windows, and glass doors, not only
provide you with virtually unobstructed views of the South China Sea, but
also allow access to your private deck area. The cottage is complimented
by a large, sunken outdoor bath set in its own private garden. In the
adjoining en suite bathroom, there is a large indoor shower, two vanity
units and toilet facilities. Room amenities include; satellite television
channels, coffee/tea making facilities, in-room safe, in-room
refrigerator, terry cloth robes, slippers, a hairdryer and the resort's
personal blend of heavenly scented shampoo, conditioner, body soap and sea
salts.
The Serambi Ground Floor Suites are contained in double storey
units, located on the lower level. Enjoy breakfast out on your private,
partially covered terrace overlooking the resort's gardens while you watch
the monitor lizards scurry along the walkway and the monkeys swing in the
trees. Room amenities include; a queen size bed, satellite television
channels, coffee/tea making facilities, in-room safe, in-room
refrigerator, bath robes, slippers, a hairdryer and the resort's personal
blend of heavenly scented shampoo, conditioner, body soap and sea salts.
The Bumbung Rooms are the same as the Serabi rooms they are only on
the first floor and do not have private terraces.
Diving :
The island of Tenggol forms part of the
Terengganu Marine Park and is still a well-kept secret amongst the diving
community. The island lies 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) offshore east of
Tanjong Jara Resort. Our brand-new twin outboard engine Speedboat covers
the distance in a spectacular 45-minute ride.
Tenggol is a small island, famous for its tropical jungle, rugged features
and sandy white beaches but most of all for its exciting dive sites. The
underwater ledges surrounding the island are home to rare species of
marine life and colorful coral gardens, which are carefully monitored by
the Marine Park Organization to ensure their continued survival.
The approximate 13 dive sites offer unforgettable under water experiences
for the beginner and exciting adventures for experienced divers. Our dive
guides are very familiar with the water, currents and tides around Tenggol
Island. They know the reefs and ledges, where those exclusive fish hang
about and are familiar with the most probable diving spots, as these
change seasonally.
Diving season on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia takes place between
the months of April and September. The northeast monsoon weather pattern
is experienced between the months of December and February and therefore
sea-faring and diving activities are not recommended during this time.
